HOW TO SMOKE YOUR PIPE

Enjoying a pipe is primarily a matter of pleasure, but for those who are new to this experience, it may present challenges that could potentially lead to discontinuation. Smoking a pipe offers a wonderful opportunity to relax and unwind during the day.

We have decided to create a comprehensive guide for those about to enter the world of slow smoking, outlining some "guidelines" and tips that we trust will be helpful for you.

To start, the first step is to understand what elements are necessary to begin:

  • A pipe
  • A tamper
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Wooden matches or a pipe lighter
  • Pipe tobacco

Load your pipe with tobacco:
Ensure that the tobacco is well shredded and slightly moist, then place it on a flat surface. Load the pipe by taking small amounts of tobacco and charging them into the bowl in three steps.
So, take a small amount of tobacco and place it at the bottom of the chamber, avoiding pressing it. At this point, load a little more tobacco by exerting a light pressure with your index finger or the tamper. Now you can add the final pinch of tobacco and exert a slightly greater pressure than before. If you have loaded your pipe carefully, you will achieve a smooth draw (proper loading helps prevent issues such as resistance during inhalation, a hot pipe, burned tongue, or excessive humidity).

Light the tobacco evenly:
Inhale gently but frequently. Opt for gas lighters or wooden matches, as wax matches can impart an unpleasant odor to the tobacco. Often, it is necessary to relight because the initial ignition only carbonizes the top layer of tobacco. At this point, it is crucial to press down on the surface of the tobacco and relight.

Maintaining a slow pace during smoking is crucial.
It should be a calm and rhythmic process, with the smoke appearing almost invisible. For those accustomed to smoking cigarettes, a reset is necessary. Forced and rapid traction leads to various discomforts: the pipe becomes excessively hot, the tongue may irritate, and moisture accumulates. Developing the right rhythm to smoke your pipe and gaining some proficiency with the instrument is a gradual process. During smoking, periodically, gently press the burning tobacco to ensure a smooth draw. If the pipe goes out, there's no need to worry, just relight it. Ashes contribute to a constant and quiet combustion.

Do not inhale the smoke! This sets it apart from cigarette smoke, which carries a higher risk of physical damage. Instead, pipe smoke is enjoyed between the nose and the palate. A pipe smoker does not burn the tobacco; they savor its pleasure. Although you can relight as much as you want, it is not advisable to continue smoking damp, densely packed, and unburned tobacco. In such cases, it is preferable to discard the old tobacco rather than risk an unpleasant taste.

After completing your smoking session, carefully remove any ashes and residue using a pipe cleaner. Avoid banging your pipe against a hard surface. Blow through the stem and run a cleaner back and forth two or three times. Avoid disassembling the pipe stem when still hot, as it is an operation that could cause unwanted shank breakage. HAPPY SMOKING!
